Born in Sacramento, California. Education: Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (B.S., 1966); University of Santa Clara (J.D., 1970); Georgetown University Law Center (LL.M. in Taxation, 1973), admitted to the Florida Bar 1971, admitted to the California Bar, 1975, and admitted to the Virginia Bar, 1976. Phi Alpha Delta. Tax Law Specialist, National Office, Internal Revenue Service, Washington, D.C.,1970 – 1972. Law Clerk to: Hon. Emmett C. Choate, Senior U.S. District Court Judge, Miami, Florida, 1973; Hon. Warren L. Jones, Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit, Jacksonville, Florida 1973-1974. Lecturer, Florida Bar Young Lawyers Bridge -The-Gap in Wills and Probate of Estates (1986-1988). Member, University of Miami Planned Giving Advisory Board.
